Post-Operative Instructions
Following the completion of Endodontic Therapy, there can be
a certain amount of soreness, especially when biting. This is
normal; however, if there is extreme discomfort or swelling
please inform us.
After your last visit it is necessary that you schedule an
appointment with your personal dentist for the permanent
restoration of your tooth.
Do not bite down on this tooth until after restoration.
If you have any problems regarding your treatment, do not
hesitate to call as we are interested in the success of your
therapy.
SURGICAL INSTRUCTIONS
-
Return home immediately and curtail physical activity
for the remainder of the day.
-
Continue the application of an ice pack to the facial
area for 20 minutes on and 10 minutes off until bedtime.
Keep head elevated. Some swelling and bruising is normal for
several days.
-
Because of the possibility of dislodging the sutures,
avoid exaggerated movement of the lips. Avoid the use of a
toothbrush in the region of the surgery. Please keep area
clean with a Q-tip.
-
We recommend that mouthwash and salt water rinses and
soaks are not done until further notice. Some localized
bleeding is normal. If bleeding persists, dampen a tea bag
with warm water and place it on the surgical area.
-
Continue with antibiotics until the bottle is empty. It
is not necessary to refill the prescription unless
instructed to do so by our office. A pain medication can be
filled if needed, or any over the counter products can be
taken. The recommended daily dose of Ibuprofen is 600rng. (3
tablets) for 2 -5 days after surgery. Do not exceed 12 pills
a day.
-
If continued excessive swelling or temperature
elevations occur, inform us immediately.
-
In 4 -7 days you will return to our office for sutures
to be removed.
TREPHINATION INSTRUCTIONS
The procedure we performed is called a trephination - which
is a venting at the tip of the root(s) of your tooth.
Following this, you may experience some discomfort and
swelling. This is normal and can be relieved by hot salt water
soaks 3 - 4 times a day and an ice pack on the outside of your
face with intervals of twenty minutes on and 10 minutes off for
a few hours.
If a small bump appears - do not be concerned. It will
eventually disappear.
You must take the medicines prescribed.
